The SeoulSteves Wine Tasting!
February 13, 2008
Last night saw the realization of something Spicy and I have been discussing for a long time: rather than publicizing everyone else’s events, we finally held our own! In order to help promote our Wine of the Month Club, and in conjunction with Kabinett wine bar, we invited an elite group of Korea’s Internet community members (both Korean and Expat) to attend the SeoulSteves wine tasting!
Although the event was put together on rather late notice, and most of our blogging friends turned out to be out of the country on vacation, we were still able to have a pretty representative group there. “Super Dave,” photo blogger and leader of the “Seoul Photo Club,” where he overseas the weekly photo challenge contest for the Korea Herald made it out along with one of his club members, as did members of the Facebook Group “Winos in Korea.”
We were also pleased to have recruited four representatives of the 10,000-member strong “Wine N Joy” Naver community, known as THE online community for Koreans interested in wine.
And in due form, our friends Steve and Steve (that’s right, there were FOUR Steves present at the wine tasting and we all ended up sitting by each other) of the Seoul Cigar Aficionado Society made it out, and we’re always happy to see our SCAS pals!
The evening was a blast, with everyone getting to know each other over some fine red wines ranging from Chianti to Bordeaux. All of the wines in the tasting are featured in the February Wine of the Month Club, which is on sale for just two more weeks. This month’s selection got an un-solicited plug from the wine writer of the Korea Herald’s Expat Living section (a sommelier-in-training) on his blog Wine Korea: “…it looks to me to be the best of the mixed cases that they have had on offer so far and well worth checking out.” Thanks for mentioning us!
By the way, if you’re at all interested in wine and you’re not reading Wine Korea, you really should be. He puts up tasting notes, recommendations, and information on good deals on fine wines to be found around Seoul
We were also happy to get a mention over on the Cross-Cultural Reviews blog. Daniel is another contributor to the Korea Herald, where he writes about Expat finance.
In just three days, the Wine of the Month Club has received the most publicity since the very beginning. We’re truly pumped about the direction this is going, and are looking to start another ‘…of the month’ club in the VERY near future, so stay tuned!
